Her Devils Page 16

Before I can question myself too much, though, the front door swings open. It’s incredibly tall and must be heavy, judging by the way the girl opening it has to lean against it to get it to swing out.

She’s tall and thin, dressed to kill, her long dark hair piled on top of her head in a messy bun. When she sees us, she smiles and walks towards us, swinging her hips and locking her eyes on my devils.

I start to wish that I’d worn heels and a nicer outfit, but I have to remind myself that my devils love me. They’re not going to leave me for some other girl just because we’re in California.

“Hey, you guys must be our new students. I’m Jessa.” She grins at the devils and then turns to me. “You’re Kiera, right? I’m excited to meet you.”

Even though I was a little apprehensive about her at first, she’s completely disarming and friendly, and I can’t help but grin back at her. “Hey, yeah. These are my boys, Parker, Luca, Caspian, and Asher.” There’s no reason to try to hide what we are to each other, and I want to lay claim on them right away.

“All of them? Busy girl,” Jessa says, laughing. “You’ll have to meet my girlfriend after class. She’ll love your style, but now I’m supposed to take you to your dorm and then make sure that you get to your first class right away. I know that things were…different at Meyer’s Grove, but I think that you’ll be happy here. It’s competitive, but nobody really tries to kill you.”

I grimace and walk next to her. My devils are right behind us, and it makes me feel safe knowing that they’re there if I need them. “You know about Meyer’s Grove?”

This time, when she turns to me, she doesn’t grin, but she kinda shrugs a little like she’s sad for us. “I mean, yeah. It was all over the news, you know? Fucking crazy stuff. But things are different here, okay? I promise. Nobody will try to kill you, and once you show everyone your badass scar, I think that you’ll find that you’re going to fit right in.”

“Great.” I can’t help the smile from splitting my face. “Let’s do this, then.”

As Jessa chatters on about the campus, I turn around and wink at my guys.

A fresh start is just what we all need. It’s perfect for us, and I think that Flintwood Academy is the best place for us all to be.
